Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty ,who shot to fame during the last season of ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ , has supported the decision by Britain’s Channel 4 TV network to kick out contestant Emily Parr for calling a housemate ‘nigger’ on the popular reality show.
Shilpa is very glad with the work don by Channel 4,they took a stand and its a positive thing,who hit the global spotlight after successfully fighting off racism and bullying on the celebrity version of the show earlier this year.
Emily Parr, a 19-year-old student from Bristol ,was evicted from the show for calling Charlie Uchea,who is black, a ‘nigger’.Stung by criticism over racist comments and bullying when Shetty was on Big Brother, Channel 4 and the producer Endermol swiftly removed Parr from the show.
Shilpa made her comments at a press conference at Leeds Town Hall on the opening day of the International Indian Film Academy Week-end, Where she appeared with IIFA brand Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan.
Britain’s mediad regulator Ofcom had received over 45,000 complaints when Shilpa Shetty was bullied on air,and after an inquiry found Channel 4 guilty and asked it to apologise.
In the ongoing show, Parr and Uchea were dancing in the living room when she said :” You pushing it out,you nigger?” Uchead told her comment might get her into trouble.
Angela Jain, head of the Big Brother commissioning team for Channel 4 said that the people watching the show will agree that Emily spoke tonight will agree that Emily spoke carelessly rather than maliciously. Charley and Nicky ,the two housemates most directly involved in the conversation with her ,seem to accept that she said.
